Project Statement
Taipei’s peripheral communities are neglected and decaying. Densification in the city caused by a rapid increase of population urges for an architectural intervention. Urban fringe communitues offer an alternative typology to the city, allowing for self-sufficiency, proximity to nature and a platform for future growth.

The project is a master plan of a new typology for urban communities surrounding the dense city of Taipei. The site is located on the existing community of Toad Mountain, and follows the planning of the neighboring community of artist village Treasure Hill. The master plan includes various types of gardens that function as a network within the community. The different community gardens include animal and plant farming, native plant for restoration and water ponds for rain collection. The gardens also allow the community to be self-sustained and self-sufficient. The master plan also includes a study of stilts housing in response to the topographical features of the site. A culinary school with different mixed used spaces is proposed as a community center, where the community is able to learn different cooking techniques with locally grown ingredients form the different gardens.
